Country Overview

Over the last 20 years, Uganda’s relative stability and progressive refugee policies have made it the destination for an estimate of 1.2 million registered refugees, including people fleeing conflict and instability in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burundi. The recent influxes of refugees have aggravated the need for a comprehensive understanding of the humanitarian situation and the provision of services for refugees living both in dedicated refugee settlements as well as in urban settings. Furthermore, information on the impacts of the changing demographics to the host communities is in greater demand. REACH has worked in Uganda since 2017, providing evidence-based information for humanitarian and development actors in support of strategic planning.
